James Walter "Jim" Hale
James Walter “Jim” Hale age 86 of Daleville, passed away after a brief illness. Jim was the son of the late Walter Rhudy and Charlotte Rakes Hale. He was born October 28, 1933 in Fieldale. Jim was served his community as a Postmaster for 33 years and served his country in the Navy 4 years. After Jim retired from the Post office he worked for Long and Foster Realty company. Jim was a member at St. Marks United Methodist Church since he has been in Botetourt. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, the beach and spending time with his family. Jim is preceded in death by his brother: William Ray Hale; sisters: Jackie Prillaman, Margaret Sheppard, and Clara Mae Nymeyer; father-in-law, Ira Smith, and brother-in-law, Watson Smith. He is survived by his wife and companion of 54 years Jeanette Smith Hale; mother-in-law, Dorothy Smith; brothers-in-law, Jimmy Smith and friend Susie of Wirtz, Jerry Smith of Rocky Mount, Jody “Duck” Smith and friend Margaret of Glade Hill, and Ricky (Pansy) Smith of Wirtz; sister-in-law, Opal Hale of Roanoke; and many loving nieces and nephews. A memorial service honoring Jim’s life will be held at a later date, please check back for arrangements.
