Catherine Ann Chamberlin Collins
Catherine Ann Chamberlin Collins, 91, went to be with the Lord on June 1, 2023, at King’s Grant Health Care in Martinsville, VA. Catherine was born on July 23, 1931, in Richmond, VA, to the late Kenneth M. Chamberlin and Mary Belle Reed Chamberlin. She was preceded in death by her husband Herbert Payne Collins, Sr., son, John Kenneth Collins, Sr., sister, Jean Hastings and daughter-in-law, Laura Collins.
Catherine attended Midlothian High School where she excelled in sports and was a leader in school activities. She attended Smithdeal-Massey Business College in Richmond, VA, to study business support services. It is there that she met her husband. Catherine and Herb, Sr. were married in 1951, and celebrated 56 wonderful years together before his passing in 2007. Together, they raised four children and lived in Richmond and Martinsville, Virginia, Dallas, Texas and Jackson, Mississippi, before relocating permanently to Martinsville, VA, in 1996.
Catherine worked as a customer service representative in the family owned business, Fibre Container Company, Inc. Catherine was a former member of Forest Park Country Club where she enjoyed playing golf and bridge with her friends. Known for her laugh, energy, and positive attitude, she was always a favorite person to be around at parties and club activities. Catherine was a member of First Baptist Church of Martinsville.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter; Mary Paige Mc Elroy (Paul) of Huntsville AL, sons; Herb Collins, Jr. (Ruth Anne) of Martinsville, David Collins (Rosa) of Martinsville; daughter in law, Marcia Collins of Martinsville, 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She will also be missed by a number of nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family wants to thank the wonderful staff of King's Grant who provided love, care, and support to Catherine over the past several years.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 10, 2023, at King’s Grant Victory Chapel, Martinsville, VA, with Chaplain Paul Johnson and Dr. Dennis Knight officiating. Visitation and fellowship for family and friends will be held immediately after the service at Franck's Place located on the campus of King's Grant.
