Eric Stewardson

May 27, 1965 - August 23, 2023

Eric “Scott” Stewardson, 58, of Roanoke, Va., passed away on Wednesday, August 23, 2023.

He was born on May 27, 1965, in the City of Alexandria, Va., to the late Edgar F. and Barbara P. Costello Stewardson.

In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his brothers, James Michael Stewardson and Lawrence Alvin Stewardson.

He is survived by his loving wife and lifelong partner, Carole Stewardson; daughters, Courtney Field (Dylan) and Meghan Stewardson; and grandchildren, Zimmerman, Courtland, Maia, Genevieve, and Scarlett. Additionally, he is survived by his brother, Stephen Stewardson (Lisa); sisters, Debbie Davis (Ed) and Donna Brown (Neil); several nieces, nephews, and cousins; a large extended family; and many lifelong friends.

Scott was truly one-of-a-kind. He didn’t know a stranger and could never refuse the opportunity to smile and wave at every passerby. He was an authentic, outgoing, true lover of life who celebrated every minute spent with family and friends, particularly when he shared their company in what he referred to as his “happy place” - the Goshen Pass, located near Lexington, Va. When he wasn’t relaxing in Goshen, or accompanying his loved ones, he focused on one of his many passions - automotives! Scott was a professional master mechanic with over 45 years of experience. During his career, he earned many accolades and awards for his numerous achievements and expertise. Born a car lover, and turning his hobby into an expansive career, when he wasn’t busy rebuilding his own 1965 Dodge Dart (dubbed “Mary Jane”) he spent the rest of his time thoroughly enjoying being outdoors, fishing, relic hunting, and making everlasting memories with his “brother-from-another-mother” - Robert Taylor.

Scott will be profoundly missed by everyone who knew him. He lived his life with great purpose, creating his own trails, and was sure to always make new friends along the way. For wherever a beautiful soul travels, a trail of beautiful memories will remain.

A celebration of Scott’s life will be held on Friday, September 1, 2023, at the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel in Salem, Va. Family members and friends may begin gathering at 2 p.m., and a memorial service will follow at 3 p.m.

Flowers are welcomed; or, in honor of Scott, please consider donating blood, platelets, or volunteer services to the American Red Cross; you may also consider making a donation to a local charity of your choice in his memory. Online condolences may be expressed at www.johnmoakey.com.

Scott’s family would like to generously thank the UVA - Emily Couric Cancer Center’s hematology, oncology, and stem cell teams and their loving staff at the Infusion Center; the caring staff at Blue Ridge Cancer Care; and the rockstar team members of the Infusion Center at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Va.
