David Tyshawn Martin

David Tyshawn Martin, 48, of Bassett, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at the Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia. He was born on December 5, 1975, in Buffalo, New York, to the late David Lee Martin and Virginia Ferguson. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, David Luther Martin and Lucille Carter Martin, and his maternal grandparents, Jim Butler and Ethel Ferguson.

David spent most of his early years in Buffalo, NY, and obtained his education in New York. He loved his hobbies, which included fishing and boating. He enjoyed spending time with the Buffalo East Side boys when he could, as well as with his cousins.

David leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Virginia Ferguson of Virginia Beach, VA; four sons, David TyShawn Jr. (Alexis), Shawn and Tarance Martin of Buffalo, NY; and his baby boy, Passhawn Martin of Bassett, VA; two daughters, Daisia Martin of Hampton, Va; and Tashawna Martin of Norfolk, Va; four brothers, Wesley Watkins (Keisha), Charleston, S.C.; Jesse L. Martin, of Van Couver, B.C. Canada; and Stacey Watkins (Lavalette) of Martinsville, Va; Joel Mitchell of Martinsville, VA; a stepfather, Archie Price Sr. of Norfolk, VA; and a whole host of cousins, aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, and great nephews and nieces. Also, he leaves to cherish his memory with his special friend, Wendella Millner of Bassett, VA.

A visitation will be held on Friday, March 8, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Bassett Funeral Service Chapel and again on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Ferrum College Chapel from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Ferrum College Chapel, with Pastor Alan Preston officiating. A burial will follow at the Ferguson Family Cemetery, at 2774 Republican Church Road, Ferrum, Virginia, 24088.
