Doris Anne Burger Otey
Doris Anne Burger Otey, 89, of Daleville, VA, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 29, 2024. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edwin Ray Otey, Sr.; her parents, Paul and Marinda Burger; and her sister, Lenoria Naff.
A devoted wife and mother, Doris is survived by her children: Edwin Ray Otey, Jr. and his wife, Terri; Lisa Kaye Beers and her husband, Jim; and Gregory Stevens Otey and his wife, Lisa. She is also survived by her sister, Barbara Snider. Doris was a proud grandmother to Mathew Edwin Otey and his wife, Kasie; Sarah Frances Otey; Patrick Stevens Otey and Ashley; Melissa Anne Beers; Hanna Marie Beers and Jack; Jacob Stewart Otey and Saskia; Christopher Ray Otey; and Lukas Paul Otey. She was blessed with great-grandchildren, Maci, Madilyn, Nevaeh, and Kenyan.
Doris was a pillar of her community and a dedicated member of Northview United Methodist Church, where she spent many years in faithful service teaching Sunday School and singing in the choir. She was also a passionate educator, teaching for 30 years before retiring from Salem High School. Doris cherished watching and supporting her sons play sports, her daughter cheer and dance and numerous other family activities.
Her warm and generous spirit touched the lives of everyone she met, and her legacy of love, faith, and kindness will be cherished by all who knew her.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8pm on Friday, June 7, 2024, at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road, Roanoke, VA. A celebration of Doris’ life will be held at 11am on Saturday, June 8, at Northview United Methodist Church with the Rev. Doug Sasser officiating. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall, where friends and loved ones are invited to gather and share memories. Doris Anne Burger Otey will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends. May she rest in eternal peace.
