Michael Reed Altice
Michael R. Altice, 72, of Salem passed away Monday, June 24, 2024. He was preceded in death by his father, John Altice.
Mike was an avid golfer and loved spending time with his "golfing buddies". They are a close knit group and had many great times both on and off the golf course. There will be a man missing physically on the course the next time they play, but he will always be there with them in spirit.
Much like his father, Mike was great at fixing things, and thinking outside of the box to give items others would have thrown away new life. He liked helping people and spent much of his retirement time with friends doing "fix its".
Mike was a hardworking man, always providing well for his family, loving beach vacations and short excursions. As much as he loved those trips he treasured the time he got to play PawPaw to Reece who was the light of his life. It didn't matter if it was picking him up from school, going for ice cream, or just doing what Reece wanted to do it was always brought joy to Mike. Hopefully Reece will always remember the special times that they spent together. While he loved spending time with his grandson he also treasured the special quality time in recent years that he was able to spend around the fire pit with his sister, Vickie. Unfortunately, this time was cut short by care giving responsibilities for his mom. He was an awesome caregiver for his mom, pitching in with all of the everyday things and even attended meetings of a Dementia support group. He was committed to her care even as it took a toll on him.
Surviving is his daughter, Melissa Watson and husband Ryan; mother, Jackie Altice; sister, Vickie Webb and her son Ben Turner; grandchildren, Reece Watson, Kelsey Woolwine, and Ashley Woolwine; brothers-in-law, Lewis Miller and Randy Miller. Also surviving are his special friends, Lloyd "Doc" Clark, Jr., Ron Sink, Sathara and Cheng Chem, Steven Huffman, Dave Helm, Steven Harris, and Eugene and Nicole Richardson.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Saturday, June 29, 2024 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road. "Rest in peace Walter".
