James Martin

James Emory Martin Jr., 82, of Roanoke, passed away July 19, 2024 at his home. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Emory and Lillian Maye Richardson Martin; brother, Donald Martin; infant son, Jimmy Martin. He and his wife Carolyn have been married 63 years. James was retired from US Postal Service as a Station Manager and started the Zip+4 for the East Coast, after that he built Martin Greenhouse in the Mount Pleasant area of Roanoke. He loved plants, gardening, travel, taking cruises and going to casinos. He loved life, he loved to laugh and was very patient. He is survived by his wife of 63 years Carolyn Sink Martin; children, Deborah M. Combs, James E. Martin III; siblings, Cathy Martin, Carolyn (Suzie) Alls, Shirley Thompson; grandchildren, Tammy Cawley, Karen Hawley, Stacy Cox, James Martin IV, Brooklyn Martin; great- grandchildren, Cameron Scott, Zachary Cawley, Tanner and Levi Hawley, Loki Powers and Malaura Dilts.The family will gather at the house of James and Carolyn for a private service on July 22, 2024. Burial will be private with family and Military Honors.
