Omie Kendrick Herndon

April 29, 1936 - July 28, 2024

Omie Kendrick Herndon, 88, of Danville, VA, went home to be with the Lord on July 28, 2024 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Herndon was born on April 29, 1936, to the late Nora Amos Kendrick and Claude Swanson Kendrick.

On April 10th, 1955, she married Charles Wesley Herndon. They were married for 69 years. During these years together she enjoyed traveling with her husband and seeing God’s beautiful creation. They visited almost every state in the United States, as well as Canada, the Bahamas, and Hawaii, and one of the highlights was visiting Pearl Harbor since her husband was a military policeman in the army.

Mrs. Herndon, who worked for Dan River Mills before leaving to help her husband in the ministry. She was an avid reader, she loved her Bible, and read it through 51 times. She had a great faith, and was a teacher of the word of God. Her greatest passion was serving God and people. She was a devoted pastor’s wife, and she loved all of God’s people that she served and shared the word of God with. She enjoyed visiting the sick and nursing homes. She was also devoted to mission work of all types. She loved sewing and craft work, along with decorating. She enjoyed the beauty of things around her.

Mrs. Herndon’s family is left with many memories of her love to help others, like the young lady in her church who desired to have a formal wedding but could not afford it, Mrs. Herndon went to work with her talent in decorating the church and gave the young lady a beautiful wedding. She gave many wedding receptions in her loving name.

Mrs. Herndon is survived by her husband, Charles Herndon of the home, and her Sister, Norma. She is also survived by her cousins, and three special nieces, Betty Nash,  Faye Williamson, and Jill Wine, and many more nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by four sisters, Iris Good, Artness Moore, Nonie Kendrick, and Peggie Haley, and four brothers, Elton, Billy, Bonar and Earl Kendrick.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 10th at 11:00 am at Norris Mt. Hermon Chapel, 3995 Franklin Turnpike, Danville, VA  with Mike Hearp officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.
