Linda Ausburne Lawson

Linda Ausburne Lawson, 72, of Stanleytown, Virginia, passed away August 3, 2024, in the comfort of her home surrounded by family. Born on November 28, 1951, in Portsmouth, Virginia, Linda was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.She was preceded in death by her father, Haywood Ausburne; mother, Kitty Ausburne; and brothers, Gilbert and Larry Ausburne. Linda is survived by her devoted husband of 54 years, Jimmie Lawson; her loving daughter, Nancy Lawson Fickling and son-in-law, Mark Fickling; her cherished son, Jimmie Lawson II; her adored grandchildren, Meghan Fickling, Cameron Fickling, and Colby Lawson; and her sister, Martha Ausburne Ashworth. She also leaves behind many dear nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law.Linda married her high school sweetheart, Jimmie, in 1970, and together they raised two children. In 1980, the family moved to Houston, Texas, where Linda’s unique southern charm endeared her to everyone she met. She worked at Gulf Oil while living in Houston, embracing the Texan lifestyle to its fullest. Through her job, she enjoyed VIP attendance at professional sports games and events, rodeos, and Texas-style corporate phrase “Would you like some brahhfust, babeh?” which translated to “Would you like some breakfast, baby?” She had a talent for stretching and shaping any word or phrase to sound elegantly southern.In her 40’s, Linda went back to school and earned her paralegal degree. Demonstrating incredible dedication, she would rise at 5 A.M. to do homework, work for the family construction business between classes, and serve as President of the Paralegal Club at Patrick & Henry Community College. She graduated Summa Cum Laude, showing her children that one can always pursue their dreams at any age.Linda was a passionate Christian woman with Christ at the center of her life. Her faith was a profound aspect of her core. She had a deep love for the coast and found joy in gardening, collecting wind chimes, lighthouses, and coastal memorabilia. She was artistic, creating beautiful drawings in her teens and twenties. Linda also had a passion for music and loved dancing with her husband. Her contagious laugh, unwavering kindness, generosity, and perpetual smile brightened the lives of all who knew her.Linda cherished time with her family and grandchildren, often enjoying day trips with her husband. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, family member, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.A private Celebration of Life will be held with the immediate family to honor Linda’s memory.
