Emmitt Franklin Knight, Jr.
Emmitt F. Knight, Jr., 70 of Appomattox, was called home Saturday, August 10, 2024, doing what he loved most, restoring his 1951 Ford pickup. He was the husband of Deborah Puckett Knight.
Born in Lynchburg, October 5, 1953, he was a son of the late Thelma Elizabeth Mayberry Knight and Emmitt Franklin Knight, Sr. Emmitt was a graduate of Appomattox County High School and attended Virginia Tech. He was a hardworking man working many different jobs throughout the years, including Coleman Adams Construction and Kyanite Mines to provide a good life for his family. One of his proudest accomplishments was Knight’s Dirt Diggers, the business he and his wife started in the 90’s, passing on his legacy of excavation and septic work to his sons and now grandchildren. He worked as a mechanic all of his life and his passion was restoring his 1971 Mustang and 1951 Ford pickup. Emmitt was an avid Harley Davidson rider and member of the Retreads group. He was an active member of the Ruritan club and loved calling BINGO and served on the Appomattox Rescue Squad. If Emmitt wasn’t riding his Harley or working in the shop, he could be found playing Chess. He never met a stranger, always had a story to tell and was ready to lend a hand to a friend in need.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Christopher Knight and wife, Mary, Daniel Knight and wife, Ashley, Mary Beth McCormick and husband, Malcolm, Robert Martin and wife, Kimberly; two brothers, David Knight and wife, Sharon and Mike Knight; grandchildren, Nicholas Powell, Kaleb Stinnett, Trace McCormick, Scarlet Knight, Kenzi Knight, Macaylee McCormick, RJ Martin, Jonathan Knight, Caroline Knight, CJ Knight, Brantleigh Martin and Greyson Knight; great-grandson, Phoenix Ramirez; nieces and nephews, TJ Martin, Dee Knight, Stephanie Lewis and John Michael Knight.
