Donnie Reid Clark
Donnie Reid Clark
Our precious brother, Donnie Reid Clark of Bassett, VA, and Greensboro, NC, departed this life to his eternal abode to be with his Heavenly Father on August 19, 2024. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Reuben Reid Clark and Virgie Austin Clark; his brother, Reuben David Clark; his brother-in-law, J. Richard Gammons; his grandparents, Sam and Charity Clark; and Henry and Lera Virginia Austin.
Survivors include sisters Margie C. Byrd (James Carroll), Elizabeth C. Baker (Fred), Carol C. Gray, Velera C. Gammons (Richard, deceased), and sister-in-law Betty Jo Foley. He was also blessed to be survived by nephews Joe Clark (Rhonda), Paul F. Neal, Jr., R.L. Baker (Sarah), and nieces Susan Gillespie (Robert), Alisa Gilboy (Sean), Shelley Turner (Mitcheal), Jason Gammons (Jennifer), and Nicole Hylton (Raymond), as well as several great nieces and nephews (Robbie, Jandi, Bradley (Molly), Patrick, Alex, Katlin, Ashtyn, William, Halee, Justus, Delaney, Emily, and Silas).
Donnie was a graduate of the John D. Bassett High School class of 1967, where he excelled in sports. He was also a graduate of Patrick Henry College, where the skills he learned helped him as co-owner of Gold Leaf Treasures in Mt. Airy, NC. There, he met and developed many lasting friendships over the last fourteen years.
Donnie was a hard worker and loved to enjoy a good laugh. His sense of humor was contagious. He loved animals, especially dogs, and they loved him. He provided treats for them when they visited his workplace. He also loved to provide treats (with parental permission) to children visiting the store, who affectionately called him “Don Don.”
Donnie’s love of his family was unmatched. He was generous with his attention to all of us and gave his time to help anyone in need. He was a dedicated Christian man who was a member of Lawndale Baptist Church in Greensboro, NC. He was devoted to reading and studying God’s word every day. He enjoyed deep discussions about the lessons learned. After reading the book of Psalms, one of his last discussions was about his amazement at God’s greatness in having named each star. Donnie was a star to his siblings and now shines with his Heavenly Father.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 26, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Bassett Funeral Service Chapel, with Dr. Jon Boiling presiding. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service. A burial will follow the service at Mountain View Cemetery.
