Alfred Hayse

Mr. Alfred (Jack) Francis Hayse, Jr., age 94, of Covington, died Saturday, September 27, 2025, at his residence. He was the husband of the late Barbara Carol Nicely Hayse.
Mr. Hayse was born May 15, 1931 in Covington, the son of the late Alfred Francis Hayse, Sr. and Margaret Evelyn Knighton Hayse. During his working career, he was employed as an engineer with the CSX Railroad in Clifton Forge, retiring with over forty years of service. Jack was a longtime member of Mallow Presbyterian Church. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and working in his garden. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and loved his children and grandchildren more than anything.
Mr. Hayse is survived by his children, Denise Reynolds and husband, Lee of Covington, Steve Hayse of Covington and Brenda McCallister and husband, Brian of Covington; three grandchildren, Travis Reynolds and girlfriend, Jessy Cole, Laramie McCallister and husband, Ryan Gibson, Abby McCallister and husband, Shawn Shiflett; three sisters-in-law, Peggy Nicely, Betty Bottenfield and Shirley McCoy; nephew, Douglas "Kip" VanDuzee; special longtime friends, Derek and Brandon Wolfe and their families; and his dog and faithful companion, Sugar.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Hayse was preceded in death by two sisters, Frances Hayse and Betty Hayse VanDuzee, a niece, Kay Epperson; and special cousin, June H. Ward.
A private memorial service will be conducted at a later date.
