Alton Lee Peters
Alton Lee “Pete” Peters, 93, of Madison Heights, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at the Summit Health and Rehab.
Born on January 21, 1932, in Gladstone, he was the son of the late Luther and Mamie Peters. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mildred Woolridge and a son, Michael Peters.
Pete proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Once his time concluded in the service, he worked as a manager for Brinks Armored Car for over 32 years. Not one to sit around after retirement, he was an excellent Barber and worked part-time at Timberlake Barber Shop for many years. He also was a real estate agent and broker after his retirement, which he thoroughly enjoyed. He was a member of Oakdale Baptist Church and taught Sunday school classes for many years. He graduated from Liberty University with a Pastor’s Degree and was an ordained minister. His faith and love of the Lord was extremely important to him.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria Peters; his son, Fred Peters (Sheila); stepchildren, Brian Travis (Sandy), Steve Travis (Tracy), Paul Travis (Angela), Nicole Lindsey (David); a special little spoiled dog “Ginger”; 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He will also be missed by many special friends and associates.
A funeral service celebrating his life will be conducted on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Whitten Monelison Chapel officiated by Pastor Terry Wornstaff. Burial will be private.
The family will receive friends on Monday, July 14, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Whitten Monelison Chapel.
