Alton M. Burnette

January 2, 1951 - April 3, 2024

Alton Marvin Burnette, 73, of Roanoke, Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, April 3. He was predeceased by his parents, Marvin and Vera Mae Burnette; his in-laws, Jim and Nell Hagy; and brother-in-law, Jim Hagy, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Carolyn; children, Brian Burnette (Susan), Roanoke, and Anita Adkins (Fred), Chesterfield, VA; grandchildren, Ray and Jeffrey Burnette; and sister, Judy Burnette, along with nieces and many family and friends.

Alton was employed at Carter Machinery in Salem for 45 years, retiring in 2017. He was a dedicated lifelong member of Oakland Baptist Church where he served as deacon chair. He was a kind, mild-mannered man who was dedicated to his family. His favorite pastimes were singing in the church choir (where he first met Carolyn), maintaining a beautiful yard and flower beds, watching basketball and golf, and spending time with Carolyn.

The family will receive visitors on Sunday, April 7, from 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Simpsons Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road, Roanoke. The funeral service will be held on Monday, April 8, at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Simpson Funeral Home with Scotty Carpenter officiating. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Roanoke.
