Alvin Kern
Alvin Lewis “Amos” Kern, Sr., age 68, of 3109 Douthat Road, Clifton Forge, died Friday, June 16, 2023 at his residence.
Amos was born April 1, 1955 in Clifton Forge to the late Robert Cecil Kern, Jr. and Mildred Emaline Herron Kern. He was a diesel mechanic for Hall Transfer, Inc. of Clifton Forge and a member of Solid Rock Ministries, Covington. He loved his Lord with all his heart, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and the companionship of his animals.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Walter V. Kern; a son, Christopher Freels; a half-brother, Paul Terry; and two half-sisters, Paula Smith and Jenny Sherron.
He is survived by his wife, Annette “Ann” Riley Kern; his children, Amy Poe, Alvin “Lewis” Kern, Jr., Harold Kern, and Dakota Kern; a sister, Jane Thomas and husband Bob; five half-sisters, Paulette Terry, Donna Taliaferro, Peggy Nelson, Betty Layton, and Roxanne Unroe; a half-brother, Pete Terry; ten grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. Amos’ family would like to express their appreciation to his hospice nurses, Crystal and Tammy for the care they gave, and to Pastor Pam Irvine and the congregation at Solid Rock Ministries for their continued love and support.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Pastor Pam Irvine officiating. Interment will follow in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge. Pallbearers will be Jerry Johnson, Chet Howard, Jeff Harris, Palmer Riley, Jr., Cameron Kern, and James Woodzell. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Nicely Funeral Home.
