Amy Slusser Bailey passed unexpectedly in her sleep on Sunday, May 11th, 2025, at the age of 50. Born on May 4th, 1975, Amy grew up in Blacksburg, Virginia, and graduated from Blacksburg High School in 1993. She was crowned Homecoming Queen—an honor that reflected the deep affection and admiration her friends and classmates had for her. Amy’s warmth, loyalty, and humor left a lasting impression on everyone she met. She was a woman of remarkable strength and quiet resilience. Through life’s challenges and hardships, Amy remained unwavering in her thoughts, beliefs, and passions. She worked for many years as a dental assistant to Dr. Glasgow in her earlier years of life. Amy was predeceased by her uncle, Roger Gardner. She is survived by her parents, Michael David Slusser (Carol Sue Slusser) and Mae Gardner Gibson (Randy Gibson), and by the lights of her life—her two daughters, Peyton Bailey and Chelsie Stafford—and her beloved grandson, Zyree Ramsey. Amy’s love extended well beyond blood; she was cherished by Chelsie’s grandparents, James and Sally Stafford, who embraced her as their own daughter. She is also survived by her brothers, Kevin Slusser and Michael Slusser II, and Michael’s children, Tre’ Slusser and Haley Sheppard. Amy’s life was filled with the love and support of many dear family members: Michelle Leonard, Katrina Milton, Carol Viers, John Slusser (Cathy), Sandra Richardson (Willie), Ronnie Slusser (Jennifer), Penny Ratcliff (Phillip), Kenny Slusser, and a wide circle of extended family and close friends who felt like family. Amy’s legacy is one of endurance, love, and a fighting spirit. Her laugh, her strength, and her presence will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Her family and close friends will gather to celebrate her life on May 24th at 2:00 PM, honoring not only the woman she was—but the strength, love, and resilience she leaves behind.
