Ann Lowry Yokeley

December 13, 1947 - February 5, 2026

Mrs. Ann Lowry Yokeley, age 78, of Mount Airy, NC, passed away on February 5, 2026, at Forsyth Medical Center. Ann was born at Fort Sill, near Lawton, Oklahoma, on December 13, 1947. She was the daughter of the late Colonel Walter Clyde Lowry, Jr. and Magdalena Sivel Lowry. Since her dad was a career US Army officer, Ann lived in many places growing up, including Fort Leavenworth, Kansas (twice); La Crosse, Wisconsin; South Bend, Indiana; Hot Springs, Arkansas; South Carolina; Virginia; Naples, Italy (for 3 years); and finally, San Francisco, California (where she graduated from high school). After Ann finished high school in California, she found her way to North Carolina to attend East Carolina University, where she earned a BA degree. After graduating from ECU, Ann then found Mount Airy, NC as the place she wanted to live. She taught third and fourth grades at Copeland Elementary School in the Surry County School System for 30 years. While she was teaching at Copeland, she completed all the work needed to earn her MA degree from Appalachian State University. Most of her students probably remember her as Miss Lowry. Mrs. Yokeley very much enjoyed traveling to other states and countries, having visited 47 states and over 60 countries. However, she always was happy to get home to Mount Airy and never wanted to live in any other place. Ann was an enthusiastic and involved member of the Modern Gardeners Garden Club. She loved having been on several commissions and committees, especially the Appearance Commission of the City of Mount Airy. She was a longtime, dedicated member of First Presbyterian Church in Mount Airy, having served as a Deacon, Elder, and Clerk of Session.Mrs. Yokeley is survived by her husband of 24 years, Dr. Stephen A. Yokeley; daughter & son-in-law Tiffany Allyson Yokeley Martin & Bradley Darrel Martin; her grandson Coley Hampton Martin; several cousins; several very special close friends; and her inside kitties Tres, Uno, TicTac, & Sylvester and her outside kitties Smokey & Rascal.
