Annabel Young

December 22, 1932 - June 18, 2024

Annabel Gusler Young, 91, passed away gently and peacefully on June 18,2024 in Martinsville, Virginia with family by her side. She was born in Bassett, Virginia on December 22,1932. She was preceded in death by her parents: Amon and Cora Gusler, beloved husband: Bobby Ray Young, brother, Denard Gusler and sister, Mary G. Hamlin. Annabel is survived by her two devoted sons: Mark Young (Jane) and Robert Young (Patricia) and her grandchildren: Jordan Young (Amanda), Jeremy Warren (Jenna), Joshua Warren, Derrick Young and Hannah Young and great grandchildren: Greyson Frost and Bristol Young. She is also survived by special nephew Sonny Gusler and special great niece Shannon G. Perry and other nephews, nieces and cousins.

Annabel attended school in Bassett. She loved the Bassett community she resided in and liked to remember the “good old days.” She worked at the Bank in downtown Bassett for many years through many different bank name changes. She was a member of Pocahontas Bassett Baptist Church and loved being involved in children’s ministries there. She was immensely proud of her children and grandchildren and loved attending their activities and school functions when she was able.

Throughout her life, Annabel enjoyed her pets, particularly dogs and cats and birds. Her cat, Cocoa, was a true companion to her. She loved going to the beach to sit by the ocean, sewing and altering lots of her own clothes, reading, arranging flowers, doing needlework and doing crafts of all kinds.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at Bassett Funeral Service at 11:00am. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A burial will follow immediately after the service at Roselawn Burial Park.
