Annie Harris

February 18, 1943 - November 23, 2024

Annie Ruth Hairston Harris, 81, of Ridgeway, VA transitioned on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at SECU Hospice Care Center in Yadkin, NC.  She was born in Henry County, VA on February 18, 1943 a daughter of the late Detroit and Ruth Carter Hairston, Sr.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Harris and one sister, Maria Dillard.

Annie accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the usher and culinary ministries.  She was employed at Henry County Plywood for 40 years.

The loss of Annie will be felt acutely by all those who had the pleasure of being impacted by her spirit.   Parts of her will continue to shine in her children and grandchildren, who have inherited her commitment to her Christian faith, her care and compassion for others, her strong will, and her mischievous humor and  contagious laugh.  Not only that, but the neighborhood birds and stray cats will be a little hungrier, the phone lines will be a little  less busy, and General Hospital will have one fewer faithful viewer.

She is survived by two daughters, Tammy H. Dillard, of Ridgeway, VA; Anita H. (Ben) Gravely, of Martinsville, VA; and one son, Harold L. Harris, of Atlanta, GA; four sisters, Hilda Hairston, of Ridgeway, VA; Debra (Freddie) Shelton,  of Charleston, SC; Fern Link, of Martinsville, VA; and Doretha (Calvin) McDuffie, of Ridgeway, VA; four brothers, Detroit (Marietta) Hairston, Jr., of Louisville, KY; Ronald (Lillie Ruth) Hairston, of Eden, NC; Barry (Carol) Hairston, of Akron, OH; and Jeffrey (Jennifer) Hairston, of Axton, VA; 5 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 29, 2024 at 12:00 PM at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Kenneth Hairston, officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one half hour prior to the funeral and will be at the home on Tuesday and Wednesday, November 26 and 27, 2024 from 1:00 to 3:00 PM and 5:00 to 7:00 PM.  A floating visitation will be held Wednesday, November 27, 2024 from 1:00 to 5:00 PM at Hines Funeral Services Chapel.
