Ardelia "Dee Dee" Thurston
Ardelia “Dee Dee” Thurston, 65, of Martinsville, Virginia transitioned on Monday, March 18, 2024, at Sovah Health – Martinsville. She was born on December 28, 1958, in New York to the late Robert Walker and Dorothy Dodson Walker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Bobby Walker.
Ardelia attended Patrick & Henry Community College where she received her certification as a phlebotomist. She was a member of Greater Canaan Land Church, where she was devoted member. She served as a former Sunday School Teacher, matron of her pastor, Bishop Raymond Bennett, and a former choir member.
She was a generous and caring person in all that she set out to do in her life, such as a mother, grandmother, and friend. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, Elijah, and Ethan. She was well known for her famous chicken salad, serving it at many catering events throughout town and her sweet potatoes that she mostly made during the holiday season.
Ardelia is survived by her son, Anthony Thurston, and his wife, her daughter in love Tenisha Thurston of Martinsville, Virginia; two grandsons, Elijah Thurston and Ethan Thurston; one brother, Rod Dodson; and host of other family and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 25, 2024, at 12:00pm at the Bassett Funeral Service Chapel, with Bishop Raymond Bennett, officiating. The family will receive friends thirty minutes prior to the service.
