Aubrey L. Morris

April 10, 1927 - February 22, 2024

Aubrey Langster Morris, age 96, formerly of Bassett, Virginia passed away on February 22, 2024 at Commonwealth Senior Living Center in Fairlawn, Virginia. He was born on April 10, 1927 in Spencer, Virginia to the late Bob McCoy Morris and Christine Ashworth Morris. Aubrey was a loving husband of over 75 years to his wife Doris and a devoted father to his children - Gary, Mark, and Roger. He was also a cherished brother to Barbara Dean Adams and the late Charles Lindbergh Morris, Sr.

Aubrey was a graduate of Spencer Penn High School in 1945 and was the last survivor of that class. Aubrey was to attend Virginia Tech but was drafted instead, receiving his notice shortly before high school graduation. He subsequently became an avid Virginia Tech football fan and attended many tailgates and home games over the years. He was employed for forty years at DuPont and later worked for Blue Ridge Airport where he later obtained his pilot's license. After retirement, Aubrey pursued a variety of interests including art, flying, and becoming an author. He worked for the Virginia Forestry Service as an aerial spotter for forest fires.

Aubrey was a proud veteran of the United States Army Air Corps and later the National Guard. While serving, he received the World War II Victory Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Marksmanship Badge for Rifle proficiency. He also was a member of the Stanleytown United Methodist Church and served faithfully in a variety of roles over the years. Aubrey became a Christian in 1948 and lived his faith as an example to his family and others.

In addition to his wife, sister, and children, Aubrey is survived by three daughters-in-law, Maxine, Suzanne, and Patricia. He is also survived by six grandchildren - Tyler, Drew, Alex, Brad, Emily Morris-Potts, and Sarah. There are two great-grandchildren - Callie and Charles James (CJ) Potts.

The funeral service will be held at 1pm on March 2nd at Stanleytown United Methodist Church with interment at Roselawn Burial Park in Martinsville where the military rights will be performed by the Martinsville-Henry County Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Gentiva Hospice, 245 Holston Rd Ste A, Wytheville, VA 24382 .
