Troy Dallas Spencer

Troy Dallas Spencer 93, of Bassett passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at Sovah Hospital in Martinsville. Troy was born on June 22, 1928 in Bassett, the son of the late Harvey Spencer and the late Kate Fretwell Spencer.  He was also preceded in death by his loving wife Inez Spencer, brother – in – law; Lindsey Warren and niece; Kitty Lane Warren Wilson.
Troy graduated from Patrick Henry Community College with an associate degree in Industrial Electronics and served on the Adjunct Faculty at PHCC for 13 years as an Electronics Instructor.  He was a lifetime member of the Society of Broadcast Engineers and retired from the field as an engineering – technician, also having held several commercial licenses including Radiotelegraph and Radiotelephone.  He had been an active (Ham) Operator (W4RPS) since 1950.  During his career he designed and installed radio station WSBV in South Boston, VA for Mr. Arnold Terry.
Troy was employed a number of years by Bassett Industries as a lumber inspector and later in the retail field by Montgomery Ward and JC Penney.  He was of the Baptist faith and a member of Blackberry Baptist Church since 1943, having served several years as secretary of his Sunday School Class.
Surviving is one daughter; Pamela (Pam) Rakes and her husband Everett Rakes, Jr., two grandsons; Brandon Rakes and Trevor Dean Rakes, and his sister Regina Spencer Warren.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 13 from 1 -2 p.m. at Blackberry Baptist Church with funeral services to follow at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Chad Janey and Pastor Merle Brown officiating.  Burial will follow in the Blackberry Baptist Church Cemetery.  Donations can be made to the Blackberry Baptist Church or to the Blackberry Baptist Church Cemetery fund at 3241 Stones Dairy Rd, Bassett, Va. 24055.
