Lessie Wimbush Hairston

Lessie Wimbush Hairston, 92, peacefully departed this life at her home on May 15, 2022.  She was born in Patrick County, VA on March 31, 1930 to the late James Wimbush and the late Amanda Williams Wimbush.
Lessie was a woman that wore many hats and perfected them all.  She had a quiet but strong presence about her.  She spent most of her life as a beloved housewife and caring for her thirteen children.
She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and spending time with her family.  Often when you would visit, she would enjoy watching her favorites, Jimmy Swaggart and believe it or not, UFC Fighting.
Lessie was a member of Grace Chapel Ministries until her health declined.  After which, Pastor Terry Hairston and others would come to her home to do weekly bible studies.
Lessie was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Jake Hairston; a brother, Percy Wimbush; four sisters, Ruby Wimbush Ross, Prince Wimbush Manns, Lucy Thomas and Bertha Wimbush Manns; two sons, Cecil Windbush and Carl Lee Manns; a daughter, Orita Hairston.
She is survived by one brother, Andrew Lee Wimbush (Ann) of Bassett; children, Lena (Gene) Lee, Wanda (James) Dunn, Vernese (Dennis) Smith all of Rocky Mount, VA, Betty Ann Hairston, Thomas (Donna) Hairston, Nancie Hairston all of Collinsville, VA, Sanford L. Hairston of Danville, VA, Hue D. (Theressia) Manns, Timothy H. Hairston, caregiver Dorethea Hairston all of Bassett, VA; 26 grandchildren; 31 greatgrandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 20, 2022 from 12:00 to 1:00 PM at House of Purpose Ministries in Bassett where a funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM with Elder CJ Martin, Presiding and Pastor Terry Hairston, Eulogizing.  Burial will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens in Martinsville.
