Lois Marilyn Wade Jarvis
Lois Marilyn Wade Jarvis, 91, of Salem, Virginia passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, May 19th. She was born May 14, 1931, to the late Jesse and Hettie Sinclair Wade in Roanoke, Virginia. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of sixty-six years, C. Elwood Jarvis; and her only sister, Doris Basham.
Upon graduation from High School Lois worked at Caldwell-Sites as a secretary. She married Elwood on July 26, 1952. Upon the birth of her first child, she took on the joyful task of being a stay-at-home mom. She stayed involved with her church and community. She was a Cub Scout den mother for several years, a room mother for her children’s grade school classes. Lois was a member of Belmont Christian Church from childhood. Growing up Lois sang as a toddler on a local Roanoke radio station, children’s church choir, and adult choir. After moving to Salem, she joined the Salem Church of Christ where she played the piano for the Junior Choir, taught 2nd grade Sunday School, assisted with the ladies circle, as well as, Young at Heart group. She also served as Church secretary. Her passion for children and ministry carried on throughout her life.
She is survived by one son, Tim Jarvis (Michelle); and one daughter, Cindy Francis (Jason); nine granddaughters; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
The family will welcome friends on Saturday, May 21st from 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm in the chapel of John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem. A celebration of life will be conducted following visitation beginning at 1:00 pm with Minister Taylor Plott officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Roanoke, Virginia.
