Sherman Wayne Chisom, Sr.

Sherman Wayne Chisom, 78, of Moneta, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 22, 2022. He was born March 31, 1944 to the late Ernest Mitchell Chisom and Delores May Barton Chisom of Bedford County.

Welcomed into his eternal home by his beloved wife of 59 years, Jewel Hope Bush Chisom. He was predeceased by his brothers, Robert (Bobby) Chisom and Douglas Chisom, as well as his sister, Phyllis Morrison.

Sherman is survived by his sisters, Sylvia Nimmo and Doris White. His spirit lives on through his children, Sherman Chisom, Jr. of Moneta, Peggy (David) Carroll of Salem, Patricia (Stephen) Wertz of Goodview, Vickie (Brent) Richardson of Roanoke and grandchildren, Jacob and Lindsey Chisom, Christopher (CJ) Danielsen, Brittany Carroll, Nicole Biddle, Brittany Goad, Steven Biggs, Benjamin and Sarah Wertz, Samantha Cook, Madelyn and Mackenzie Richardson and six great-granddaughters and two great-grandsons.

Sherman was an electrician by trade, who had owned and operated Virginia Contracting of Roanoke. He had worked for a time at Overnite Transportation Company. When his children were young, Sherman had been a member of the Stewartsville-Chamblissburg Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a member of Flint Hill Baptist Church.

Visitation will be held at Lotz Funeral Home in Vinton on Friday, May 27, 2022 from 2-4 PM and from 6-8 PM. Celebration of Life services will be Saturday, May 28, 2022 at 11 AM with Pastor Bobby Harris officiating, followed by a graveside service held at Mountain View Cemetery in Vinton.
