James "Doug" Whitlow, Sr.

James “Doug” Whitlow, Sr., 89, of Bassett, passed away on Saturday, June 25, 2022, at his home.  He was born in Franklin County on April 28, 1933, to the late Robert L. Whitlow and the late Elsie Ratcliff Whitlow.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Gail Whitlow and 6 brothers and sisters.
Doug is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Lorene Cox Whitlow; sons, James D. Whitlow, Jr. (Janice) of Ridgeway and Jerry D. Whitlow (Dreama) of Gilroy, CA; grandchildren, Lorri Tate, Brent Whitlow, Kristin Whitlow, Lauren Martin, and Jordan Whitlow; great-grandchildren, Allie Whitlow, A.J. Whitlow, and Paisley Martin; brothers, Bobby Whitlow (Brenda) and John Edward Whitlow (Margie) both of Henry; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 29, 2022, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Stanleytown’s Amazing Grace Baptist Church in Bassett, where a funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM with Dr. Greg Hodges and Dr. Jerry Whitlow officiating.  Burial will follow at Roselawn Burial Park in Martinsville.
