Bertha May Merriman

Bertha May Merriman, 79, of 1155 Trenthill Drive, Bassett, Va. passed away on Sunday, June 26, 2022 at Moses H. Cone Hospital in Greensboro, N.C. She was born August 12, 1942 in Lenoir, N.C. to the late Raymond C. May and Ethel Ferguson May. Mrs. Merriman was preceded in death by her husband, James L. "Butch" Merriman and her daughter-in-law, Chelena Lynn Merriman.

Mrs. Merriman was a retired computer systems analyst with Fieldcrest Mills in Fieldale, Va. and was a member of Mount Hermon Church of the Brethren in Bassett, Va.

Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Lisa Merriman Hodges and Lanny Hodges of Bedford, Va.; sons and daughter-in-law, Robert C. Merriman and Heidi Merriman of Ocala, FL and Larry D. Merriman, of Martinsville, Va.; one brother, J.R. May of Jacksonville, Fla.; and one sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn May Pruna and Carlos Pruna; and six grandchildren, Andrew Hodges and wife, Jane Zhou-Hodges, Brianna Merriman, Jacob Merriman, Conner Merriman, Peyton Merriman, and Caroline Merriman.

A closed casket memorial service will be held at Bassett Funeral Home on Friday, July 1, 2022 from 2 until 4 p.m. Victor Hinson, longtime family friend of the Merriman family, will be officiating. The burial will take place the following on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at Roselawn Burial Park and will be a private family gathering, no service.
