Amon Thomas Finney

April 3, 1941 - July 13, 2022

Amon Thomas Finney, 81, of Martinsville, Virginia passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at his home. He was born April 3,1941 in Martinsville to the late Averette Finney and Eva Fowlkes Finney. After 25 years of service, he retired from the Martinsville Police Department as a Sergeant.

Amon enjoyed hunting, fishing, repairing lawn mowers, restoring cars and had a special affinity for Barney Fife. Two of his favorite movies were “A Christmas Story” and “My Cousin Vinny.”

Amon was the funniest person Amon knew. The rest of us thought he was pretty funny, too.

In addition to his parents, Amon was preceded in death by his sister Beulah Finney Barbour, nephew Donnie Barbour, sister-in-law, Faye Clark Walsh and (sometimes) loyal companions, AJ, Puddles and Luke.

Amon is survived by his adoring wife of nearly 47 years, Judi Clark Finney aka “Babe;” sister Jeanette Finney Nester; nephews Jerry Barbour (Susie) and Kimmy Nester and niece, Debbie Robinson (Sonny). Great nieces and nephews, Bradley Barbour, Amanda Barbour Harris, Jonathan Barbour and Caroline, Katelyn and Frazier Robinson.

When Amon married Judi, he gained a few more admirers who survive him: sisters-in-law Barbara Bowling (Donnie); Joy Clark; Cathy Clark and Pam Clark. Nieces and nephews, Larry Cope (Samantha), Donna Bowling, Dana Bowling Honbarrier and Lance Merriman; great nieces, Abby Cope (Alexandria Norton); Cannon Honbarrier, Victoria Dean and Emily Cope; special friends, Danny and Terry Opalanko.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, July 17, 2022, at 2:00pm at Wright Funeral Service Chapel.
