Joel Daniel "Dan" Kingery
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father, Joel (Dan) Kingery. He was a light in this world, and now we need to continue shining his light by carrying it within us in our own lives.
Dan was born on November 24, 1936. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of over 50 years, Doris Kingery; also predeceased by three brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his son, Mark (Joanna), his son Steve (Tammy), his daughter, Danya Dillon (Bennie); nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister, Helen Green.
Dan served in the U.S. Navy 20 years, stationed in Jacksonville, Florida most of his career. Born in Franklin County, VA he moved back to Rocky Mount, VA in 1976 after retiring from the Navy. Dan worked in Rocky Mount at several places including his own upholstery business, Womack Electric and Flora Funeral Home before final retirement.
Dan was an active member of Doe Run Christian Church since his return to Rocky Mount and loved his church family
His children would like to express their deepest appreciation to his caregivers during these last few months: Tyler, Briana and the staff at Rocky Mount Rehab; Marsha, Lorraine, Linda and Lynn at Just Like Home Assisted Living Facility; and Helen with Carilion Hospice.

Funeral services will be held at Flora Funeral Chapel 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 22, 2022 with Pastor Michael Stump and Rev. Dan Agee officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park with military honors. His family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
