Betty Jane Mattox

Betty Jane Mattox, 74, of Bassett, passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2022 at Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital. She was born on December 2, 1947 in Henry County to the late John Henry Gilbert and the late Sallie Turner Gilbert. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by grandchild, Christopher Pace; sister, Cindera Martin and brothers, June Gilbert and Jessie Gilbert. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church; BRASCA Asst. Treasurer (Sickle Cell) and member of Christopher Hope Inc. Team.

Betty is survived by her son, Carl Gilbert; daughters, Sharon Tatum (Travis) and Kimberly “Pepsi” Pace-Holland (Ben); grandchildren, Camari Gilbert, Journe Gilbert, Trinity Gilbert, Chiera Pace, Brianna Pace, Alexus Dillard, Brandon Pace and Cameron Pace; great grandchildren, Nadiyah Aguilar-Pace, Juan Aguilar-Pace, Iliana Aguilar-Pace, Emmanuel Sarabia Lopez and Christopher Sarabia Lopez; sisters, Christine Manns, Dorothy “Dottie” Clark (James), Linda Pace (Roger), Beatrice “Diane” Johnson; brothers, Chester Gilbert (Betty), Isreal Gilbert, Gerado Gilbert and Donnell Gilbert; special friends, Mary Thomas Jones and Lillie Mae Reynolds; a special cousins, Betty Doris Turner.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:00 pm on Friday, July 29, 2022 at Bassett Funeral Service Chapel with a funeral service to be held at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow the funeral service at Carver Memorial Gardens.
