Dollie Geneva Richardson Griffo LeMond
In loving memory of our mother, Dollie Geneva Richardson Griffo LeMond who passed away peacefully Sunday, July 31, 2022. Dollie Geneva was born April 16, 1929, to the Theodore Roosevelt Richardson and Annie Kate Ferguson Richardson in Franklin County, Ferrum, Virginia. Dollie Geneva is predeceased by her husband, John J. Griffo, Sr., her second husband, Frederick (Jack) LeMond, her brother, Delno Lane Richardson and her grandson, John J. Griffo III.
She is survived by her four children. Two sons, John J. (Mary) Griffo, Colchester, Vermont, Joseph M. (Virginia) Griffo Sr., Martinsville, Virginia, and two daughters, Carol A. (Terry) Vernon, New Bern, North Carolina, and Linda S. (Robert) Swenson, Manassas, Virginia. She is also survived by her stepdaughter, Linda Benninger LeMond, 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 1 great- great grandson, and 3 nieces.
Dollie Geneva resided in Manassas, Virginia for 30 years with her husband, John, until his passing 7/27/1982. During that time, Mom dedicated herself to her loving husband and her children. Dollie Geneva also worked at Coles Elementary School as a teacher’s aide and substitute teacher before her employment with the Federal Government. Once she retired from the Federal Government, Dollie Geneva moved back to her hometown of Ferrum, Virginia, to be the caregiver for her dad for six years.
On 11/27/99, Dollie Geneva married her second husband, Jack and they remained together for 18 years until his passing 6/23/2017. After a brief move to Florida, Mom and Jack moved back to Rocky Mount, Virginia.
Mom was an active member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Rocky Mount, Virginia and she enjoyed singing in the choir for many years. Mom and Dad (John) enjoyed square dancing for many years together. To this date, she kept up with many of the members. She also kept in touch with her friends and neighbors from Manassas, Virginia.
Our mother was a kind, caring and giving person who always put the needs of her family before her own. She was a source of inspiration to us all and she will be deeply missed by everyone whose lives she touched. She will always be in our hearts. We love you Mom, even though Joe is your favorite.
Funeral Mass will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Rocky Mount, Virginia at 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 5, 2022. Her family will receive friends 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Thursday, August 4, 2022 at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
Mom will be laid to rest beside our beloved dad, John, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church Cemetery, 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 6, 2022 on Purcell Road, Manassas, Virginia.
