Dot Carter Angle Harper

January 15, 1929 - August 2, 2022

Dot Carter Angle Harper, age 93, of Rocky Mount, died on Tuesday, August 2, 2022. She was born in Cumberland, VA on January 15, 1929 to the late Edward Allen and Annie Mae Carter.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, R. Wesley Angle and James A. Harper, Jr.; and two sisters, Ann Carter Dey and Jackie Carter Settle.

She is survived by her sons of Wesley Angle, Steve Angle of Rocky Mount, VA and Don Angle of Montpelier, VA; daughters-in-law, Lisa Angle (Steve) and Sarah Angle (Don); granddaughter, Melissa Angle of Richmond, VA; and great-grandsons, Matthew and Ryan. Also surviving are the children of Jimmy Harper, Jay Harper, John Harper, Russell Harper, Sabra Willhite, and Elizabeth Lucchesi; grandchildren, Carnes and Caroline Willhite, Russell Jr., Jessie and Cabell Harper, Gayla Whittaker, Christopher, Kemp, and Evelyn Harper, Jim and Harper Lucchesi; great-grandchildren, John Russell, Adeline, Ainsley, Mark, and Ellie. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Dot was a graduate of Longwood College with a degree in Home Economics. After her sons began school, she taught the 7th grade at Rocky Mount Elementary School then taught Home Economics at Franklin County Junior High School and Benjamin Franklin Middle School, retiring after 20 years of teaching.

She was a wonderful mother and grandmother. Dot had the gift of hospitality, hosting large gatherings during Christmas at her and Jimmy's home in Richmond, VA, preparing delicious meals for her family. She was an accomplished seamstress and pianist. During her school years as a student, she was a talented basketball player. Dot always saw the humor in everyday life and loved to laugh, in fact she was a professional clown having graduated from Clown School and entertained at numerous parties and functions. She had many friends in Rocky Mount and in Richmond.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2022 at 11:00 am at Rocky Mount United Methodist Church with Rev. Will Waller officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 am prior to the service at the church.
