Betty Jean Burton

November 27, 1965 - August 4, 2022

Betty Jean Burton was born on November 27, 1965 to loving parents, Jim and Rowena Burton.  Her life’s journey ended on August 4, 2022 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Betty had a love for butterflies, unicorns, the color purple, and writing; most specifically poetry.  She was also known for writing many Christmas plays for her beloved church, Mountain View United Methodist Church.  She had a sweet spirit that couldn’t be matched and was kind to everyone she met.  She also enjoyed crafting and making gifts for her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, Betty is preceded in death by her brother, Robert (Bobby) Burton; and a special uncle, Rob Burton.  She is having a joyous reunion with them and many tears and laughs are being shared.
Betty is survived by the love and light of her life, her son, Dustin Burton and his wife, Kelli.  Not only was Kelli a special daughter in law, she was her self-sacrificing caretaker for may years.  She is also survived by her sisters, Birdie (Doug) Moye, Anna (Alvin) Holt; and her brother, Jamie Burton who shared many wonderful childhood memories with and who will miss her terribly; her nephews and nieces whom she loved dearly, Eric (Kristi) Burton, Travis Moye, Jason (Katie) Burton, Brandon (Kristin) Moye, Brittany Moye, Adam (Tiffany) Burton, Kyle Holt, Kelsey Holt, Jacob Burton, and Zoe Burton.  She is survived by several great nephews and nieces, special cousins and a sister-in-law, Tonya Burton.  She has also left behind a special Aunt Beulah “Boe” Sanders whom she loved with her whole heart, and special friends, Edd and Marie Holt, Randall and Maxine Holdren, and Rudy and Juanita Jones who was always there when she needed something.
The family would like to thank all of the caregivers at Medi-Hospice; Kelly Mertz, Maxine Holdren, and Kelli Burton, who gave effortlessly of their time in Betty’s last days.
In lieu of flowers, Betty requested memorial contributions to be made in her honor to Cancer Kids and Christmas (1815 Old Wolf Creek Road Narrows, VA 24124), for all donations remain with our local families.  She has touched so many lives during her short time here, please help her continuing doing so in her memory.  At her request there will only be a graveside service.  Therefore, there will be a celebration of life conducted on Saturday, August 6, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Sunset Cemetery in Pearisburg, VA with Pastor Eddie Kendall officiating.  A guestbook is available by visiting www.kendallfuneralhome.com.  The staff of Kendall Funeral Home are honored to serve the Burton family.
