Joyce Ann Barnett Cain, age 74 of Rocky Mount passed from this life into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, August 4, 2022. Joyce was born in 1947 and spent over 40 years doing what she loved most in life, being a nurse and caring for those that couldn’t care for themselves. She loved her time working with staff and residents at Camelot Nursing Home (now Berkshire Health and Rehab) in Vinton, Virginia and later working out the remainder of her career as a Charge Nurse at Franklin Health and Rehab in Rocky Mount, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her love and companion for over 30 years, Charles “Gene” Hodges, Sr.; her parents, Joseph and Marion Barnett; grandparents, Harry and Annie Graham; brother, Michael Barnett; brother-in-law, Larry Burton; step-children, Barry and Jay Hodges; step-daughter, Sandra Rickmond; and her four-legged fur babies, Buck and Lady. Joyce is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Gerald Killian; daughter-in-law, Pamela Hodges; “adopted daughter”, Anita Phifer; step-son, Charles Hodges, Jr. (Monica); step-daughter, Aileen Pearce (Sydney) brothers, Joseph Barnett, Jr. (Jackie), Jimmy “Jimbo” Barnett (Vickie); sister, Paula Burton; sister-in-law, Diane Barnett; grandchildren, Mary Beth Killian, Jaydan Hodges and Daniel Hodges; adopted granddaughter, Megan Burnette; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; special friends and her best roommate ever, Juanita David and her daughter, Joyce. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Tuesday with Pastor Jeff Wray officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to mom’s church, Fairview Church of the Brethren, Rocky Mount or to your local animal shelter as mom loved animals so much. Thanks to all the wonderful staff and her friends at Franklin Health and Rehab for your loving care of mom these past two and a half years. Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
