Gordon Winfred Gallimore, Sr.

December 22, 1938 - August 4, 2022

Gordon Winfred Gallimore, Sr., 83, of Roanoke went to be with the Lord Thursday, August 4, 2022 surrounded by his family.  He was born December 22, 1938 in Allisonia, Virginia to Earl and Beulah Gallimore, the youngest of twelve.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by many siblings, and the love of his life and wife of 55 years, Darlene Gallimore.
Gordon was a faithful member of Emmanuel Wesleyan Church in Roanoke for many years, and recently a faithful member of Healing Word Ministries in Roanoke.  A loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he instilled in his family a love of hard work and good craftsmanship that will carry on for generations.
A graduate of Dublin High School in Dublin, VA, he worked 32 years for the Virginia Highway Department (now VDOT).  His work included being a part of the original surveying and construction of I-81 and I-581  as well as many other projects in Roanoke and the New River  Valleys.  He enjoyed his work and was proud of his service to the Commonwealth.
Surviving is his sister, Christine (Claude) Cassell of Collinsville; children, Gordon Gallimore, Jr. of Ohio, Samuel Gallimore of North Carolina, and Gary (Sandra) Gallimore of Roanoke; grandchildren, Jesse (Valerie) Gallimore, Josh (Tara) Gallimore, Allison (Jeff) Key, Matthew (Shannon) Gallimore, and Christopher Gallimore; and great grandchildren, Jackson, Ava, Henley, and Piper.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road by Pastor Terry Shaw.  Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Simpson Funeral Home.  540-366-0707
