Christine Keys Parr
Christine Keys Parr, 101, of Salem, Virginia, died August 18, 2022 at Lewis Gale Medical Center following a brief illness.
Christine attended Academy Street School in Salem and participated in President Rooselvelt's National Youth Administration (NYA) program in Salem during the Great Depression.
During World War II she was employed at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard and the Radford Army Ammunition Plant. Following the war she worked for the Salem-based Maid Bess Corporation and for Avon Products, Incorporated. She retired from the Holiday Inn in Salem in 1987.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Raymond Parr and a son, Tony Alan Parr. She was also preceded in death by her father William Keys; her mother, Ruby McDaniel Journell; stepfather Hampton Journell; a sister Lois Linwood Wilson; and brothers Johnny, Norris and Larry Journell and Jack Keys.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Carolyn (James) Craig and her sons Jimmy and Dennis Parr. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Lotz Funeral Home in Salem on Thursday, August 25, 2022 from 12:00 until 2:00 pm. A graveside service will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park at 2:00 pm.
