Oscar Alexander Scales, Sr.

Oscar Alexander Scales, Sr., 91, of Spencer, Virginia, passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at his home. He was born April 13, 1931, in West Virginia, to the late J. B. Scales, Sr. and Ella Turner Scales. He was a member of Antioch Christian Church. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and raising chickens; he loved his grandchildren and had fostered over forty children over the years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Julia Thomas Scales; sister, Lillian M. Wilson; brothers, Joseph A. Scales, Sr., Jessie L. Scales, Sr., David Scales, Sr., Albert J. Scales, Sr. and Clyde E. Scales, Sr.

Oscar is survived by his daughters, Kelly Marie Scales and Mary E. Durant; sons, James Alfonzo Scales, Sr., Oscar A. Scales, Jr. David A. Durant and James E. Howard; brothers, Carl L. Scales, Sr., Kenneth E. Scales, Sr., and James T. Scales, Sr.; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 11, 2022, at 3:30 PM, at Wright Funeral Service Chapel with visitation 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will be private.
