Dora Hodge Swanson

Dora Hodge Swanson, 99, of Martinsville, Virginia passed away Monday, September 5, 2022, at her residence. She was born December 12, 1922, in Henry County, Virginia to the late Rufus Hodge and Sally Martin Hodge. She was a member of Mt. Olivet Apostolic Church and worked for Golden Living Nursing Home. She was a missionary, enjoyed flowers, traveling, reading, baking, word search puzzles, telling stories, giving kind words and her dog, Precious.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Olton Swanson; son, Kenneth Swanson; sister, Jeanette Redd; brothers, Raymond Hodge, Freddie Hodge and William Hodge.

She is survived by her daughters, Alice Swanson, Margaret Swanson, Doretha Williams, and Janet Suddoth (Michael); sons, Olton Swanson (Constance), Vincent Swanson, Dwayne Swanson, Sr. (Paula) and Wayman Swanson; grandchildren, Zenobia Frazier, Dwayne Swanson, Jr.,Jessica Wingfield, Shemeka Barkley, Zabayda Swanson, Dorian Dillard, Michael Suddoth, Carlehr Swanson and Nicholas Swanson; and great-grandchildren, Michael Olton Davis, Zachary Davis, Avery Dillard, Jamauri Williams, Janai Wingfield, Ja’Siah Wingfield and Addison Dillard.

The funeral will be Monday, September 12, 2022, at 11:30 A. M. at Wright Funeral Service Chapel. Burial will follow at the Swanson Family Cemetery in Axton, Virginia. Visitation will be thirty minutes prior to the service. There will be a floating visitation Sunday, September 11, 2022, from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Chapel.
