Violet Martin Barnes, 86, of Spout Spring, passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at Babcock Manor. She was the wife of the late William “Bill” Donald Barnes.
Born on May 8, 1937, in Spout Spring, she was the daughter of the late John David Martin and Ollie Baber Martin. Violet was a member of Spout Spring Baptist Church and attended Salem and Evergreen United Methodist Church. She taught as a Sunday school teacher at Salem for many years. She and her husband Bill traveled extensively over the years. Violet loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by a sister, June M. Taylor; seven nieces and nephews, Dolly Sowell, Donnie Ferguson and wife, Aileen, Linda Dudley and husband, Bill, Dean Martin, Debbie Mull, Tammy Stewart and husband, Randy, and Allen Martin; and many great, and great-great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary M. Ferguson, and two brothers, John D. Martin, and Allen R. Martin.
A special thanks to Shana Canada, Shawn Lee, and Kelsey Almond for their special care of Violet and to Tripton Martin Canada, who was a great joy in her life. We would also like to recognize Shirley Williams and Emma Jackson for their loving care of Violet.
A funeral service will be held 11am, Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at Evergreen United Methodist Church with Rev. Eric Hernandez and Rev. John Flood officiating. A private committal service will be held in Spout Spring Baptist Church Cemetery following the service.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service at Evergreen United Methodist Church and at the home of Shawn and Jeff Lee, 2044 Pumping Station Rd, Appomattox, VA 24522.
