Gwendolyn Paulette Franklin

September 12, 1926 - February 21, 2024

Gwendolyn Paulette Franklin, 97, of Appomattox passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at The Woodland in Farmville, VA. She was the wife of the late George Clifton “Shine” Franklin for 58 years.
Born on September 12, 1926, in Appomattox, she was the daughter of the late Robert Jefferson Paulette and Annie Wheeler Paulette. She was a lifelong member of Evergreen Baptist Church where she served as teacher, choir director, organist, and church clerk. Gwendolyn retired from J.A. Burke and Co. after 45 years of service. After retirement she worked as the church secretary for Evergreen Baptist Church for 15 years. Gwen also worked as a representative for Woodmen of the World for a few years.
She is survived by one daughter, Paula F. Ferguson and husband, Keith of North Chesterfield, VA; two grandchildren, Kevin Ferguson and wife, Shannon of Raleigh, NC, and Megan F. Vanderherchen and husband, Matt of Ruther Glen, VA; two great-grandchildren, Caleb and Daniel Ferguson; brother, James Paulette of Appomattox; sister-in-law, Mildred Jean Dunnam; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by seven brothers, Jack, Bruce, Dwight, Ashby, Adrian, Burke, and Temple Paulette and three sisters, Virginia Krouse, Kathleen Lawler, and Christine Moseley.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am, Saturday, February 24, 2024, at Evergreen Baptist Church with Dr. Chris King, Pastor Todd Estes, and Pastor Robert Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
