Ralph Mayberry
Ralph Emmett Mayberry, 81, of Promise Land Road, Appomattox, passed away at home on Friday, February 23, 2024.
Born on May 9, 1942, in Red House, he was the son of the late George William Mayberry and Nellie Elizabeth Mann Mayberry.
Ralph worked many jobs over the years, working two jobs at a time to support his family—from working in the family gardens as a child, pulling tobacco, and minding a gas station with his brother. Ralph worked at the Blue Buckle, Craddock Terry, the Lynchburg Foundry, Armstrong Furniture/Thomasville in Appomattox, and Falling River Country Club. His last job was the one he enjoyed the most because he got to care for the animals at the Appomattox County Animal Shelter, he even adopted two of the cats and we gave them a forever home.
He enjoyed being outside doing yard work, sitting outside in the evening with his cats, Sammy and Delilah, or sitting inside drinking Pepsi Zero and watching his cop shows, westerns and comedies.
Ralph outlived his wife, Barbara Jean Mayberry, by eight years, and missed her every day since she passed away at home on July 20, 2016. At the time of her death, they had been married 53 years.
He is survived by his daughter, Tracy R. Mayberry; two brothers, Fred Mayberry and Billy Mayberry; brother-in-law, Beverly H. Franklin; and lots of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Ralph was also preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Frank Hubert Mayberry and wife, Betty Ann Franklin Mayberry; his brother Milton Whitney Mayberry; his sister and brother-in-law, Sadie Marie Mayberry Hamlett and husband, Robert Gordon Hamlett; and sister-in-law, Vicki Mayberry Franklin.
A graveside service will be held 3 p.m., Monday, February 26, 2024, at Liberty Cemetery with Pastor Jeff Worley officiating.
