Grace Forrest
Grace Elizabeth Poindexter Forrest, 79, of Appomattox, died Monday, July 8, 2024. She was the wife of Lloyd Samuel Forrest, Jr.
Born in Farmville, Virginia, May 5, 1945, she was a daughter of the late Edward J. Poindexter and Lucy McDaniel Poindexter. Grace grew up attending the Price Edward County Public Schools until they were closed in September of 1959. During the first year of school, Grace tutored her younger sister Ethel. She was able to continue her education in York County, Virginia, while living with her older sister Mary Mariner. Grace then attended school in Appomattox County while living with her uncle, Vincent “Duke” and Vermont Patterson. She graduated Valedictorian from Robert R. Moton High School in 1964 from the Prince Edward Free Schools.
After high school graduation, she attended Saint Paul’s College and majored in K-8 education. On December 21, 1968, she married the love of her life Lloyd S. Forrest, Jr. Grace and Lloyd lived in Pamplin, Virginia, for a short time before moving to Appomattox.
On January 5, 1972, they welcomed a little girl named “Lloliza”. Grace truly dedicated her whole life to raising her “Lisa”.
Grace worked for the Appomattox County School System for 37 years. She attended Promise Land Baptist Church in Appomattox County for over 50 years. Grace served as Deaconess, Sunday school teacher and VBS director. She was initiated into Alpha Upsilon Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc, (1963) . Grace was a chapter member of the Kappa Rho Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc, (1976).
She is survived by her husband, Lloyd Forrest, Jr.; daughter, Lisa Forrest-Marshall and husband, Leverne who she dearly loved; granddaughter, Taylor Marshall; brother-in-law, Arthur Foster; three sisters-in-law, Shirley Robertson and husband, Randolph, Ann Thomas Franklin and husband, Vance and Darlene Reed; brothers-in-law, Edward Forest and Darnell Evans; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death two sisters, Mary Mariner and Ethel Foster; one brother, Warren Johnson; nephew, Ronald Mariner; niece, Denise Mariner; and sister-in-law, Wanda Forest Evans.
A funeral service will be held 11:30 a.m., Thursday, July 11, 2024, at Promise Land Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Phillip E. Brown officiating and Rev. John Braxton as eulogist. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m., Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at Robinson Funeral Home.
