Alice Clapp Martin

Alice Clapp Martin, 96, of Bedford, passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2024, at The Summit Health and Rehab. She was the wife of the late Rawlings Clayton Martin for 61 years.
Born in Appomattox County on February 20, 1928, she was the daughter of the late John McHyne Clapp and Ruth Tickle Clapp. She was a member of Mt. Comfort Methodist Church.
For many years Alice and Clayton operated Martin General Merchandise, AC and RC Martin Railroad Ties in Caskie, and M and M Dry Cleaners. Alice was the secretary and bookkeeper for all the family businesses. In addition to working a full-time job, she raised three children and cooked dinner every night for her family.
She is survived by three children, Lynn M. Spangler, Gregg C. Martin and wife, Paula, and Yvonne M. Heath and husband, David; two grandchildren, Matthew B. Foster and wife, Kary, and B. Kyle Martin and wife, Julie; many loving great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Aiden Clayton Martin; and seven brothers, Richard E, Clapp, J. Allen Clapp, Daniel A. Clapp, Enid M. Clapp, John M. Clapp, Hugh H. Clapp, and B. Earl Clapp.
A celebration of life service will be held 11 am, November 2, 2024, at Mt. Comfort Methodist Church with Dr. Rick Helein officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
