Gracie Louise Mayberry Doss
Gracie Louise Mayberry Doss, 92, of Appomattox passed away on Friday, January 3, 2025, at her daughter’s residence. She was the loving wife of the late Douglas O’Steele Doss, Sr.
Born on March 28, 1932, in Appomattox, she was the daughter of the late James Berkley Mayberry and Frances Elizabeth Mann Mayberry. She was a faithful member of Friendship Baptist Church.
On January 3 our family lost a devout Christian, devoted and loving mama, mother-in-law, granny, great granny and great-great granny. We were all so blessed to have had her in our lives. She enriched each and every one of us over the years. She was the sweetest lady, but she also had a unique way of letting you know if you displeased her. She gained her angel wings in the early morning hours, and she is now with our Lord and Savior and has been reunited with the love of her life, Doug, who she was married to for 64 years. She will be greatly missed, and we will treasure the precious memories of her.
She is survived by five children, Janice Bryant and husband, Benjamin, Doug Doss, Jr., and wife, Janet, Patricia Wallace and husband, Mike, Steve Doss and wife, Rhonda and Sherri Ferguson all of Appomattox; adopted daughter, Pat Moore and husband, T.E.; 12 grandchildren, Ginger McDonald and husband, David, Bennie Bryant and wife, Martha, Lauren Fisher and husband, Cory, Melissa Doss and husband, Robert, Stacey Thompson and fiancé Dennis Guill, Jamie Mitchell and husband, Chris, Edwin Wallace and Jordi Williams, Jennifer Hill and husband, Mark, Steven Doss and Amanda, Sarah McGuire and husband, Casey, Heather Cheatham and husband, Tim, and Felicia Mann; 24 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Clyde, E. Mayberry, Shirley M. Collier, Edward Mayberry, James Mayberry, Russell, Mayberry, Alice M. Clapp, and Ida B. Crawley.
A funeral service will be held 1 pm, Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at Robinson Funeral Home with Dr. H. Rondel Rumburg, Pastor at Friendship Baptist Church and Pastor Earnie Lucas officiating. Burial will follow in Liberty Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
