Hazel Fields Wilson

December 11, 1943 - January 6, 2025

Hazel Anne Fields Wilson, 81, of Spout Spring, VA, died Monday, January 6, 2025, at her residence. She was the wife of the late Frank Jackson “Buster” Wilson, Jr.
Born in Virginia, on December 11, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Haven Boyce “Bob” Fields and the late Emma Violia Mann Fields. She was a member of Spout Spring Baptist Church. Hazel worked at Thomasville Furniture and retired from Archer Creek Foundry. She was also a member of the American Legion Post #104.
Hazel was a very giving and loving person. She traveled down a very long and hard road on her life journey. Despite the circumstances given she made the best out of her life with her endless sacrifices for others. Known for her endless love for Christ she impacted many churches in the community. She showed compassion and empathy for widows, children, elderly, veterans, the disabled, and all those in need.
She was a member of Spout Spring Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and played the piano so beautifully. She brought children and people from all over to church witnessing and spreading the Gospel of Christ. Hazel brought her family up in church. She would rarely ever miss a Wednesday or Sunday. Hazel Moon, a great woman of God has a great impact on my grandmother in her early childhood years along with her mother Emma. Hazel Moon was also a Sunday School teacher who later became a well-known missionary.
Hazel loved life and man did she love to eat! Her smile would light up the room. She sacrificed so much for her family and loved them endlessly.
She is survived by five children, Kenneth Earl Mayberry and significant other, Sandra Martin of Spout Spring, Richard Douglas Mayberry, Sheila Anne Booker and husband, Brian of Gladstone, Laura Jane Nash and husband, Allen of Appomattox, and Lesley Dawn Winders of Phenix; 15 grandchildren including, Julie Lorraine Thompson who cared for her for the past eight years; 25 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Katie Sue Stapleton; sister and brother-in-law, Mildred Jean and Buck Thompson; brother and sister-in-law, Haven McLeonard and Carolyn Fields; and two granddaughters, Hannah Taylor and Rebecca Daniels.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am, Thursday, January 9, 2025, at Robinson Funeral Home officiated by Pastor Jeff Slaughter. Burial will follow in Spout Spring Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and following the burial friends and family are invited to the Spout Spring Baptist Church Fellowship Hall for food and fellowship.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Hadi Davis, Alicia Bushnell, Heather Mays, Betty Brownfield, Jeri Deeson, and Laura Martin for their care of Hazel. They would also like to thank Bill Liu and Ken Yang for providing her free meals for 8 years.
