Bentley Martin
Bentley Wray Martin, 82, of Lynchburg, died on Wednesday, February 19, 2025.
Born in Appomattox County, VA, on October 23, 1942, he was a son of the late Robert B. “Bob” Martin and Isabelle M. Martin. He was preceded in death by a brother, Allen Randolph Martin.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Dale Miller Martin; a son, Richard Gregory Martin and wife, Laura of Lake Mary, FL; two grandchildren, Reece Martin and Bella Martin; and a special niece and nephew, Shawn Riester (Bill) and Bryan Martin.
Bentley was a member of Trinity Methodist Church where he taught Sunday school for the Sunshine class and served as Chairman of the Finance Committee and Associate Lay Leader. He was a graduate of Lynchburg College with a dual degree in Business and Economics. He was a member of the Army Reserves and a retired claims representative for State Farm Insurance. Loving construction, he enjoyed working with Habitat for Humanity building houses for families in need. Bentley and Dale enjoyed going to Classic Car Shows where they displayed the 1965 Pontiac that they dated in. He and Dale also enjoyed being members of the Holy Bowlers Bowling League for many years together. One of his favorite pastimes was playing cards and games with family friends, but especially with his grandkids, Reece and Bella, who lovingly called him Papa. Bentley liked being outdoors, planting a garden, tending to his lawn as well as helping his neighbors, going to the beach and the mountains, and hunting just so he could enjoy being in nature.
A funeral service officiated by Pastor Wyatt Cudd and Pastor John Flood will be held at 10 am, Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Trinity Methodist Church with burial following in Rebecca Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
