Marvin Burnell "Pete" Monroe
Marvin Burnell “Pete” Monroe, 94, passed away on Monday, April 7, 2025, at Runk and Pratt at Liberty Ridge, Lynchburg. He was the husband of Grace Garnett Monroe.
Born on September 18, 1930, in Rustburg, he was the son of the late Warren Bunyan Monroe and Pearl Finch Monroe. He was a member of New Chapel Baptist Church. Pete served four years in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War on the U.S.S. Albany. Most of this time was spent in the Mediterranean Sea. However, he crossed the equator and went to the Artic Circle.
A few years after his discharge from the U.S Navy, he began working for the Norfolk & Western Railway. Norfolk & Western and Southern Railways merged, so after 31 years of service he retired from Norfolk Southern.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Tweedy Belmont and Margaret Monroe Baldock; and a brother, Warren F. “Sonny” Monroe.
A funeral service will be held 11am, Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at Robinson Funeral Home with Rev. Phillip Bailey and Rev. Timothy Dooley officiating.
Interment will be held 2pm, Wednesday at Sandy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Amelia County.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service at Robinson Funeral Home.
