Earlean Loving

March 15, 1927 - April 19, 2025

Earlean Ore Loving, 98, of Lynchburg passed away Saturday, April 19, 2025, at Bentley Commons Assisted Living Facility. She was predeceased by her husband of 75 years, Charles Loving, Sr.
Born in Campbell County, Va., on March 15, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Artie Ore, Sr. and Alma Ore. She was predeceased by five brothers and one sister.
Over the years, Earlean worked at C&P Telephone Company, JC Penney, and later opened Adams Aquarium, a tropical fish store, with her husband. Later in the 1980s, Earlean went to work for Brown’s Tropical Fish Store in Hills Plaza where she developed a friendly relationship with Duffy, the resident red, blue, and green macaw. If you were lucky, Earlean would show you Duffy’s trick – drinking Diet Dr. Pepper from a plastic cup! She always enjoyed talking to customers and helping people select the perfect goldfish.
Like her husband, Earlean never met a stranger and formed many close relationships with her church family at Fort Hill United Methodist Church, neighbors on Navajo Circle, and various travel buddies. Earlean was always up for fun and adventure, whether it be shopping for seasonal decorations, a trip to the Outer Banks, or a UVA football game. Two of her passions were her flowers and cooking delicious food. According to her grandchildren, no one made fried chicken and creamed potatoes like their Nana! Earlean was a member of the UCT, Eastern Star, and sang in the church choir well into her 70s.
She is survived by two children, Charles “Chip” Loving, Jr. and wife, Kathy of Lynchburg, and Mary L. Dickerson and husband, Earl of Appomattox; four grandchildren, Greer D. Harris of Appomattox, Tobin J. Dickerson and wife, Meghan of San Marcos, Ca., Zane H. Dickerson and wife, Beth of Cary, NC, and Marie Markuson of Appomattox; and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Harry Ore, and one sister, Phyllis Tomlinson, and husband, Ed, all of Lynchburg.
A memorial service will be held at 11am on Monday, April 21, 2025, at Fort Hill United Methodist Church with Rev. Marc Brown and Rev. Janet Hawkins officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation at t2t.org or your favorite charity.
The family would like to thank the staff of Bentley Commons and especially Donna Nash as a personal caregiver to Earlean during the week over the past two years. Thank you, also, to Janet Baker for her help as a weekend sitter.
