Carroll Edward Mays

Carroll Edward “Tootsie” Mays, 69, of Appomattox, Va, passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of Linda “Kay” Ellis Mays for 50 years.
Born in Lynchburg, Va, on August 23, 1956, he was the son of the late Madelene Mays Gillispie and the late Albert Tucker Mays. Carroll was a man of great faith and trusted God for everything, especially concerning his long battle with cancer. He often said that serving God was one of the best gifts life could ever give you. Freedom Word Church and its members played an important role in his faith journey. Carroll was a wonderful father and husband, deeply loving his family and his church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, the flea market, and was a bit of a jokester.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Christopher Ellis and Kimberly C. Wolford and husband, William “Porky;” five grandchildren, Sydney, Jacie, Addy, Taylor, and Bayleigh; and three great-grandchildren, Axel, Aila, and Tucker.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Melissa McCormick Ellis.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
