Willie Martin "Bill" Caldwell Jr.
Willie Martin “Bill” Caldwell, Jr., 87, of Pamplin, Va., passed away Friday, August 29, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of Ruth Ranson Caldwell for 62 years.
Born in Craig County, Va., on April 25, 1938, he was the son of the late Willie Martin Caldwell, Sr. and the late Mary Kate Firebaugh Caldwell. Bill was a devoted member of Rocks Baptist Church, where he served as an usher, deacon, treasurer and assistant treasurer. He also served as a treasurer for the Pamplin Ruritan Club. Bill was a draftsman for General Electric for 15 years and a building inspector for Appomattox County Government from 1976 until he retired in 2000. He enjoyed golfing and fishing and supporting the activities and interests of his grandchildren. To his family and community, he was a selfless person, who would give his time to fix most anything, for anyone at any time.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Kendall W. “Ken” Caldwell Sr. and wife, Sarah and Willie Martin “Billy” Caldwell III and wife, Gina; five grandchildren, Hannah Caldwell Austin and husband, Jake, Kendall W. Caldwell Jr. and wife, Taylen, Leah Caldwell, Harry Caldwell, and Colleen Caldwell; two great-grandchildren, Maggie and Sadie Austin; three siblings, Catherine C. Watson and husband, Conrad, Connie C. Martin, and James Caldwell; one sister-in-law, Doris S. Caldwell; one brother-in-law, James Williams; two sisters-in-law, Louise R. Roach and Mary Edith R. Morris; two brothers-in-law, Frank R. Ranson and Mike Ranson and wife, Betty; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Alton Boyd Caldwell; one sister, Carolyn Sue Williams; and four brothers-in-law, Harold Martin, Aulden Roach, Glenn Morris, and Harry E. Ranson and wife, Joan.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am, on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at Rocks Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Doug Lee. Burial will follow in Rocks Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends following the service at the Church and at other times at the residence.
